Nelson A. Soto joined SMB Law as a law clerk following his graduation from the
Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University.

Before joining SMB Law, Mr. Soto spent a year as a legal intern with a civil litigation firm
on Long Island, where he researched issues including lien law, Article 78 proceedings,
and New York State ethics, and assisted with discovery in construction litigation by
preparing deposition digests, organizing findings from medical records, reviewing
surveillance footage, and compiling invoice data. He also served as a law clerk with a
Nassau County practice, where he researched contract and trusts and estates issues,
assisted with the drafting and filing of motions, and filed a notice of appeal. Earlier, Mr.
Soto served as a judicial intern through the Suffolk County Legal Internship Program,
observing court proceedings and completing assignments for the judge’s chambers.

Mr. Soto earned his Juris Doctor from the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra
University. During law school, he served as Senior Staff and Research Editor of the
ACTEC Journal and served on committees for both the Nassau County Bar Association
and the Suffolk County Bar Association. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political
Science, summa cum laude, from the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy at
the University at Albany, where he was named to the Dean’s List of Distinguished
Students and served on the Standards Board of the Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity.

Mr. Soto’s earlier work in the construction industry — reviewing contracts received from
general contractors and assisting in the filing of mechanic’s liens — gives him a
practical familiarity with the contracts, documentation, and jobsite conditions at issue in
the Firm’s construction defect and property damage matters.

Working under the supervision of the Firm’s attorneys, Mr. Soto assists with legal
research, drafting, and case development. His research, drafting, and organizational
skills support the Firm’s commitment to providing efficient, thorough, and results-driven
representation in property damage, construction defect, and subrogation matters.
